Tony Peltier (My Day DJ)

Tony went there, Tony Goes There, Tony will be here, and now he is your My Day DJ.

Followers of the platform may remember Tony Peltier, a driver who advocates for women by ensuring they get from point A to point B safely.

Now, he’s bringing that same passion to weddings and events, using his DJ skills to elicit smiles.

But Tony didn’t just watch a YouTube video and decide the time was right to start mixing beats at your aunt’s wedding.

In high school, Tony used to spin that ish with a close friend.

He then went to Brown College to further learn the craft.

From there, he interned at the renowned station KDWB, which in my day used to keep artists like Eminem and 50 Cent constantly blaring on car radios throughout the Twin Cities.

“The commercial production side is something I really liked, being able to create something from scratch that would help someone promote their business,” Tony says.

Trying to carve out a niche in the space, Tony spent time in Iowa and Washington, tirelessly working to turn his musical fervor into sustainable employment.

“Ultimately, the career path was a little dry,” Tony shares.

“There is a joke in the industry that to work in a major market, you need major market experience,” he adds with a hearty chuckle, good vibes at the core of each interaction I have ever had with Tony.

Advancing in radio was challenging for Tony, so he moved back to Minnesota.

“On top of all that, I was lonely and I wasn’t finding anyone quality to date out west,” he recalls, which is funny because I never thought that show business would be a breeding ground for, well, actual breeding, the cutthroat environment too much of a deterrent for singles looking to build a family that embodies traditional Midwest values.

Upon immigrating back to Minnesota, Tony got into doing voiceover work for big business.

“I really liked that but there wasn’t enough work for me to consistently pay my bills, so I ended up getting a job in Corporate America,” Tony says.

Predictably dissatisfied with the monotony of his 9-5, the ambitious and creative Tony gave up the steady paycheck and began driving people around the Twin Cities, for much better pay than entities like Uber or Lyft were willing to pay.

Today, Tony still goes there, and he is still great at protecting and advocating for women, but this new entrepreneurial wrinkle has brought him from behind the wheel to front and center at weddings and events.

“I loved DJing back in college, but I got tired of working for peanuts while the owner made all the cash,” he contextualizes.

“I vowed to myself that if I had the opportunity later in life to own my own DJ company, I would, so that I could provide the same experience, but also be paid for the value that I offered.”

Two years ago, Tony and his wife sold their house and were able to pay off debt.

“With the extra cash available, I felt it was the perfect opportunity to go ahead with that dream and start My Day DJ,” he says.

So he did, the aim being to give brides an outstanding, unforgettable experience.

“When it comes to weddings, we take pride in focusing on the bride,” Tony cleverly states.

My Day DJ also hosts grad parties, senior all-night parties, reunions, and special events.

“The My Day DJ name denotes the idea that when people walk away from an event, they are saying that that DJ made my day,” he notes.

“Ultimately, the business is about being affordable, while still offering value at a very high level.”

I’ve always appreciated how Tony prioritizes the safety of women, mostly because in a societal and media landscape that continues to pretend that men and women are virtually identical, ideologues are more concerned with self-promotion and inciting chaos than they are with actually protecting women.

So when Tony highlights how he maintains safety both in his car and at his events, part of me admittedly rolls my eyes because one would hope safety is always taken into account, but the world we live in isn’t as concerned with reinforcing safety protocol as one might hope.

That’s why it is key to emphasize that Tony doesn’t just talk about keeping women and people safe.

Instead, he practices it, every single day he turns on his ignition or fires up his DJ keyboard.

Recently, Tony hosted an all-women’s event with over 100 attendees.

“I was literally the only guy there,” he points out, which touches on the reputation he has cultivated over the many years he has been in business, particularly with female entrepreneurs.

“The trust factor of women understanding and knowing that I’m a trusted partner, not only with their business, but also that I have no ulterior motive, that’s important. I’m a Christian man showing up on the scene, happily married with kids of my own, that really just wants to see things shine for women and female entrepreneurs.”

Booking an event with Tony is seamless, and transparent.

One only needs to visit his website to see pricing and schedule a consultation.

On-site, Tony isn’t buried behind his keyboard with headphones on either.

“I don’t hide behind the music,” says the former pro dancer who once appeared on So You Think You Can Dance.

At the same time, he isn’t narrating the entire evening.

“A lot of DJs talk too much or too little, but they really don’t know how to interact with the crowd other than on the microphone,” he says.

“So with me, I actually like to get out there and make it a part of my repertoire to lead, or be part of the line dancing, and to really make it an integral part of my service.”

If you’re worried about Tony stealing the show with his dance moves, fret not, because all details regarding the event are discussed during the consultation phase, which is where Tony can also leverage his vast network to bring in a florist, photographer, or any other element of an event that may be requested.

That being said, don’t call Tony a wedding planner because looking ahead, this kindhearted entrepreneur is also eager to break out into other industries, like returning to voiceover work and doing professional speaking gigs.

See, for Tony, life has taught him a lot.

There is undulation on the roads he drives, and in the music he plays, yet Tony still goes there, and if the past is any indicator, he will continue to go there for years to come. QS
