Andrew Macagnone (Alpha Exteriors)

Andrew Macagnone is the owner of Alpha Exteriors.

Originally from New Jersey, Macagnone grew up in the city of Caldwell, just outside Newark.

“I kind of miss the East Coast,” Macagnone says as we convene inside Lifetime Fitness in Eagan, where the two of us routinely play pickleball.

“The food was really good.”

Be that as it may, his mom was from Hopkins, and as the Macagnones’ lives evolved, so too did their address.

“Actually, my dad owned a flower shop in New Jersey for 17 years too, but then we wanted to transition to something else, so we came back here to Minnesota,” Macagnone says.

That was twenty years ago.

In the two decades since moving back to the Midwest, Macagnone has done many things, including graduating from UND with a degree in marketing.

While in North Dakota, Macagnone also met his wife and found religion.

“Going there [to UND], changed my life in a variety of ways,” he admits.

Macagnone’s stint in Grand Forks also altered his professional career when, at a career fair, he connected with a roofing company from Eagan.

“I was always attracted to sales and earning a commission,” Macagnone says, and for reference, most sales reps in the roofing industry work purely off commissions, meaning they don’t get paid if they aren’t selling roofs.

After corresponding with the roofing company in Eagan, Macagnone was eventually hired.

At that point, nothing was promised to the former New Jersey resident, but the tenacious Macagnone began knocking doors, looking for homeowners who may have needed help with hail-damaged roofs.

Then, on June 11, 2017, the Twin Cities was rocked by hail, which created a major need for Macagnone’s presence at homes throughout the metro.

“That year, I saw a lot of hail damage and helped a lot of people,” he says.

“I still wasn’t convinced that I wanted to be in roofing sales, but as the commission checks came in, and as I was able to help more and more people, I then never even considered doing anything else.”

Over the ensuing years, Macagnone continued to build a book of business while simultaneously selling for other roofing companies in the Twin Cities.

But like many roofing sales reps, Macagnone eventually wanted to move on and open his own roofing company.

“I wanted to have a roofing company where I could lead with my values, and the best way to do that was to open my own business,” he explains.

“I’m grateful for those seven years where I was a sales rep because they taught me so much.”

Macagnone’s decision to bet on himself happened three years ago, at which point he founded Alpha Exteriors.

At present, Alpha Exteriors helps with roofing, siding, windows, gutters, and painting, but Macagnone is also looking to get into decks and additions in the coming years.

“I want to get more into the retail side of this business,” he says, the hope being to expand his expertise beyond primarily working with homeowners whose homes have been impacted by hail damage.

With preparations already beginning for 2026, Macagnone reveals that he’s not focusing on trying to generate as much volume as possible.

Rather than aiming to install 100 roofs per year, Macagnone is instead centering his efforts around ensuring every job his roofing company produces is profitable, and that his clients have an excellent experience when they partner with Alpha Exteriors.

“I genuinely care about every person that I’m helping,” Macagnone emphasizes.

“Whether a client ends up working with me or not, I want to make sure they have as much information as possible, and ultimately feel comfortable making such a big decision regarding their home exterior project.”

Adds the seasoned roofer:

“I’ve seen the other end of the spectrum, where homeowners are not taken care of by roofing companies, and that’s another key reason why I’m so diligent about putting the homeowner and their needs first.”

As mentioned, Alpha Exteriors is not pushing to make a quantum leap in 2026.

“Well, nothing extravagantly big,” Macagnone says with a laugh.

“I’m more than happy to grow slowly because I know if we do that, and the focus remains on helping homeowners, then everything else will fall into place.” QS
