Chris Hansen is the owner of Junk 86, a locally-owned Twin Cities company that offers reliable and affordable junk removal services.
Originally from Cottage Grove, Hansen enjoyed growing up in the suburbs, even though the area was less abuzz than the state’s metropolis.
“It was different,” Hansen says of growing up outside city limits.
“I mean, it was fun, but there wasn’t as much to do as in Minneapolis, obviously.”
As a teenager, Hansen liked playing baseball, and he also enjoyed solving mathematical equations.
“The latter really helps with business,” he cracks.

Once Hansen graduated from high school, he left the Twin Cities and moved to Denver, where he began selling turntables used at music festivals to local vendors.
But eventually Minnesota beckoned him home, so Hansen returned to the Twin Cities and began delivering packages for a major corporation until he broke his heel while on the job.
After a lengthy bout over worker’s comp, Hansen became dismayed.
“It took them five months to diagnose my broken heel,” he points out.
“I realized I didn’t want to be in that type of environment anymore, so I left my 9-5 and started a junk removal company.”
His company, Junk 86, helps Twin Cities homeowners and businesses remove pesky items from their properties, saving clients time and potentially money because Hansen and his team handle everything from start to finish.
“We do everything from removing a single couch, to full house and estate cleanouts,” Hansen says.
In that sense, Junk 86 is a trusted resource for realtors and property managers looking to outsource junk removal and satisfy their existing clients.
“We also disassemble and remove hot tubs, fences, pianos, and pretty much the entire spectrum of junk removal,” Hansen notes.
“The only thing we don’t take are hazardous materials.”
Beyond junk removal, Junk 86 also operates as a moving company.
Founded in 2023, Junk 86 is not marketed to the masses like other Twin Cities junk removal companies, meaning they’re not running ads on TV or social media, but Hansen and his team instead offer something much more desired in today’s economy:
Authenticity and transparency.
“We are very customer-oriented,” Hansen emphasizes.
“The focus is always on assisting our customers and giving them a seamless, enjoyable experience when they work with us.”
Adds Hansen:
“Also, our prices are lower because we don’t have the overhead that the bigger companies do, and we handle everything from start to finish, meaning when you hire me, I’m the one who is spearheading and facilitating the entire junk removal process for my clients.”
Therefore, removing unwanted junk and debris from your home or commercial building is easy.

That being said, Hansen may not be able to give you an exact price over the phone, but he can certainly provide his clients with an approximate price for services rendered.
“If someone just wants to remove their couch, that could be as little as $150,” the Cottage Grove native says.
“As far as an exact price, it all depends on which county a client lives in because when we remove junk, we also have to dump it in a reuse center, and there is a cost associated with that.”
When calculating a rough estimate of how much a junk removal may cost, Hansen encourages prospective clients to bear in mind that the more stuff they want gone, the more time and energy Junk 86 will need to devote to their project, which in turn increases the price on the final bill.
For readers looking to take immediate action on their spring cleaning, from now through the end of April 2025, mention my name to receive 15% off your bill.
“Keep in mind that there are times where I can give a pretty accurate estimate over the phone if someone sends us photos and videos, but typically it’s better for me to get out to the property and see things in person,” Hansen explains.
“This allows me to not only get a better idea of the scope of work, but to also build a relationship with the client.”
In the coming years, Hansen is aiming to scale Junk 86.
“I want to get a facility in the next 12-24 months,” he says.
He would also like to purchase another company vehicle and hire more employees, but his primary objective will be continuing to optimize the customer service experience.
“Our clients want information and prices as quickly as possible, so I’m working diligently to structure our website and our office to be able to give people what they want, as quickly as possible,” Hansen says.
“Ultimately, as a junk removal company, we’re in the business of serving customers and giving them an excellent experience so that the next time they or their friends have things they want to get rid of, there is no doubt in their minds who they will be calling for help.” QS
