Shaun Fleck (Fleck’s Garage Door)

Shaun Fleck is the owner of Fleck’s Garage Door, a Twin Cities company that helps homeowners with garage door repairs and replacements.

Fleck grew up in Dilworth, Minnesota, next to Fargo-Moorhead, and as a kid Fleck helped his grandpa with ironing, a process that involved a blowtorch and dismantling antiquated farm equipment.

Those days with his grandpa, among others, were crucial to establishing Fleck’s business philosophies.

“I have a farmer’s mentality, which means I work hard, I do what needs to be done, and I take care of people,” Fleck says.

“Simple as that.”

Since becoming a teenager, Fleck has always used his hands to earn a living.

Whether he was hanging gutters, installing siding, or doing an array of other carpentry tasks, Fleck has always remained dedicated to doing things the right way.

But when COVID hit a few years ago, Fleck made a foray into the garage door industry, and soon, he started his own business, Fleck’s Garage Door.

“I wanted to better myself and help people,” the humble Fleck lists as the reason for beginning his entrepreneurial pursuits.

“I also happen to really enjoy fixing and installing garage doors.”

For context, not every homeowner that Fleck helps ends up with a new garage door.

That’s because often a repair can be made, and if executed properly, a repair can add years to the lifespan of a garage door, and save a homeowner substantial amounts of money.

“There are garage door companies in the Twin Cities that will encourage homeowners to replace their units when sometimes all they need is a simple repair,” Fleck reveals.

“The difference between a repair and a full replacement is thousands of dollars, and in many ways, a homeowner can get several more years out of their garage door with a repair, so if it makes sense, I’m always looking to have the homeowner spend less money than they otherwise would.”

Adds Fleck:

“I don’t like the idea of selling a product or service that the homeowner doesn’t need just so I can make more money.”

When it comes to garage doors, usually no two homes are the same.

Therefore, pricing out a garage door requires more than just a quick measurement of the unit’s dimensions.

“The price all depends on the size of the garage door, the material that the garage door is made out of, and how long it will take me to install the garage door,” explains Fleck, who says garage door replacements can range from $1,500 on the low end to $8,000 for a premium product.

”I know that’s a wide range for a new garage door, which is why I always encourage people to have me come out so that I can find out what it is they’re looking for, and then match them up with a product that fits their unique set of circumstances.”

Eddard Stark from Game of Thrones is notorious for uttering “winter is coming,” and at the time of this writing, frigid temperatures are certainly on the horizon for the Twin Cities.

Consequently, garage doors will experience issues that require repairs.

If and when your garage door falters this winter, make sure to call Fleck’s Garage Door at 612-501-7309.

Doing so will not only ensure that your garage door won’t impede your ability to escape the frozen tundra this winter, but by placing a call to Fleck, homeowners are likely to save more money than if they go to one of the bigger local companies.

“If something is broken, then around $350 is approximately how much someone can expect to spend on a repair, and really, when you contrast that with doing nothing and then not having a functional garage door in the winter, that price isn’t very high at all,” Fleck says.

With those words, Fleck is touching on something important, which is that far too often homeowners seemingly pay exorbitant prices for garage door replacements, especially when they partner with a big company that carries a lot of overhead.

Due to Fleck’s Garage Door’s modest size, homeowners don’t have to incur the added expenses that larger companies infuse into their estimates.

The detail-oriented Fleck says his lower price points are by design.

“I’m there to serve the customer. The initial consultation I do is so key because I don’t want to give clients a product or service that is outside their budget,” Fleck says.

“I want them to get the best possible product and service and not have to overpay for it. It sounds simple, but the reality is that in the garage door industry, all too often I see companies look out for their bottom line versus the best interests of the homeowner.”

Looking ahead, Fleck’s aim is to stay busy servicing customers and their garage door needs, but he would also like to expand his operations, ideally to the point where he can bring on a technician to assist with projects.

“That being said, growth is a process. Truthfully, I’m still in the process of acquiring knowledge because I don’t want to pretend that I know everything when it comes to garage doors,” Fleck asserts.

“But I know a lot, and if there’s ever a situation I encounter where I don’t know how to most effectively handle what’s in front of me, I won’t just do some lame, halfhearted repair and then tell the homeowner not to worry. That’s not who I am.”

Adds Fleck, who has no qualms about putting his values at the forefront of his garage door business:

“My company was founded on the principles of honesty and integrity. Those beliefs have gotten me to this point, and I’m highly confident that, along with doing excellent work, leading with authenticity and transparency will enable me to further ascend in the garage door industry.” QS
